Welcome to UnJAM.org!
UnJAM, the United Jefferson Area Mobility Plan, is the long range transportation plan for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Area (MPO) and the five-county Thomas Jefferson Planning District. Our six member localities are Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson Counties.

In 2004 the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and the MPO Policy Board adopted UnJAM 2025. The Plan captured local visions for land use and transportation growth and development, while achieving a regional consensus on priority projects and strategies.UnJAM 2035 will continue as the guiding document for transportation planning throughout the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. It assesses the current regional transportation system, recommends improvements to keep our regional transportation as efficient as possible, and crafts a regional vision for all future transportation plans and projects.

Regional Vision

The Thomas Jefferson Planning District’s transportation system will provide safe, sustainable, efficient and attractive multimodal choices, support the movement of people, goods and services and protect the environment, our communities and quality of life, while addressing regional and statewide transportation needs.

In May of 2009, the MPO Policy Board approved the urban portion of the UnJAM 2035 plan. As in 2004 with the previous version of this plan, UnJAM views the urban and rural transportation network as one integrated system. While the current draft does incorporate rural and urban transportation topics, the main focus was the City of Charlottesville and urbanized areas of Albemarle County. The MPO approved the current draft of the plan to meet federal deadlines and requirements, which allowed the area to be eligible for certain funding sources. After approval of the urban portions, TJPDC Staff began concentrating efforts on the rural segments of UnJAM 2035 to be approved by November 2009.
